Dust Contamination
in manufacturing and finishing industries has long been a problem. Entrapment
of particles in paint finishes or laminates can lead to expensive rejection
rates. Whilst for small items compressed air driven cleaning systems can
be an economic and effective solution, for larger items this is often
no longer the case. For this reason Meech has developed the COMBI 2000.
What
is the COMBI 2000?
The COMBI 2000 is an advanced Ionised Aircurtain featuring a fully self-contained
air supply.
It has been designed to give the highest possible performance coupled
with very low running costs.
The use of
high velocity Ionised air is very effective in removing electrostatically
attracted dust.
Traditionally this has been achieved by using compressed air driven systems,
comprising an
air knife in conjunction with an Ionising bar. In small installations
the compressed air
consumption is sufficiently low to make them cost-effective. However ,
the consumption of a long,
compressed air driven, aircurtain can be extremely large. In the modern
era of energy
conservation this is often found to be no longer acceptable. The COMBI
2000 offers large scale
savings on energy costs.
Applications
The COMBI 2000 has a very wide range of applications. Wherever large objects
require dust removal the
COMBI 2000 is the system to choose. The modular design of the system allows
its use in many different
industries. A few examples follow:
a) Automobile Manufacturers
The automobile industry was the initial driving force behind the development
of the COMBI 2000.
Preparation of the car bodies prior topaint spraying is a demanding task.
The use of a three manifold system
cleaning the sides and top surfaces of car bodies prior to painting has
been proved to be highly effective.
b) Mouldings
Large mouldings are renowned for attracting dust. The cooling of the moulding
and the manufacturing
process can generate large levels of static. This leads to dust adhering
to the surfaces. Where the moulding
is required to go onto a finishing stage such as painting or having a
decorative finish applied, the entrapment
of dust can lead to poor finished quality. Effective static neutralisation
and blow-off are the hallmark of the
combi 2000.
c) Plastic Film Production
Entrapment of dust and insects due to the high electrostatic charges produced
in the manufacture of many
plastic films can lead to costly rejection rates from end-users. The use
of a COMBI 2000 system immediately
prior to the winding station can solve this problem.
d) Laminated Glass
Entrapment of particles between the layers in laminated glass gives rise
to obvious quality problems.
The use of the COMBI 2000 on the contact surfaces ensures the cleanliness
required for reliable quality.
e) Printing
Screen printing on board can be problematic dust created by the sheeting
of the board can adhere to the
surface to be printed. This leads to poor quality printing. In many cases
the size of the board makes the use
of compressed air driven systems uneconomical. A single COMBI 2000 manifold
system is an effective solution.
